2nd Card [Backdated to yesterday night]

[They spliced her. They kidnapped her and they spliced her. Sure, giving her wings when she arrived is one thing, but she didn't volunteer to be taken away so they could give her scales, fangs, mess with her eyes and get rid of her hair. She can't be out like this - she needs to get back into her apartment, and... stay there until she changes back. Or until she can figure out some other kind of solution.

Melanie's lucky it's dark out, or else it would be a hell of a lot harder to try and sneak back home - and she's lucky that she still has her legs, too. It would be pretty difficult to miss a human-sized thing slithering around in the middle of the night, after all. Of course, there's no real way of knowing for sure if she'll manage to get back without being seen, but damn it, she'll try.]

[Later, when she's back home:]

It's Melanie. Sorry for being away, but the sudden absence wasn't exactly my idea.

Either way, I'm back now, so I guess that's what matters. Did I miss anything interesting?

[OOC: Melanie's back from her mallynapping! And she's been spliced with a black mamba, HOORAY. She'll be looking pretty different from usual (apologies, my editing skills seem to be pretty crummy these days), and she may start acting a bit different since splicing changes both appearance and personality, so uh. [With how close she is, he has to wonder much this really means to her. She might be weird looking right now, but in a week? She'll be fine. He's always going to look like this. His gaze drifts away from the ocean, off to somewhere else.]

Just one. [But she doesn't exist to him anymore.] But we hadn't really spoken in a while.

Ahh... too bad, huh? [Well, obviously not bad for Kurt, but...]

It doesn't really matter. [Except it does because she still cares about Terry, but there's nothing to be done about that.] I'm here now, anyway. It's better for me to just focus on that.

... ahh, yeah, I guess that's one way to look at it. [Honestly, it's been nearly a year, maybe it's time for him to start doing the same.]

I guess it is. [Who knows, maybe after a while she'll actually be able to forget all about the people and the life she left back in Gotham.

... Okay, no, that's a lie. But it's a nice thought, at least.]

What about you? Did you have anybody you were close to back home?

Well... yeah. [She was honest. It was his turn to do the same.]

Her name is Amanda. We'd been together for a few months. She was the first person to like me despite... looking like this. And not just like, but actually like the way I look.

Hm. [She smiles, and tilts her head to look up at Kurt.] She has good taste in men.

[And normally, now would be when she'd try to kiss him... but considering her current state, Melanie is going to refrain. Better to save anything beyond hugs to when she's back to normal.]

It's been a year since I saw her. But maybe you're right... about focusing on being here.

I've always been a 'live for the moment' kind of person. I guess you could say it's how I usually manage to deal with things. [While she had tried to tone down that frame of mind after settling down in Gotham, it's started to come back a lot more frequently while she's been staying here. Too painful for Melanie to think about her past, too scary for her to think about the future. It's easier to try and focus on what's happening now.]

If you think that'll help, then maybe you should give it a try.

[bamfing]

[Just giving up Amanda is kind of a big deal for Kurt. So while her advice isn't unheeded, he's having a hard time taking it. He can't help but feel guilty about the whole thing.]

[Melanie doubts it would be easy for anyone to just go ahead and give up on the people they left behind. She just has more practice because it's something she's been doing all her life... and even then, it doesn't always work.]

... Well, like I said, it's just how I deal with things. It might help, but it probably isn't for everyone. [Because not everyone wants to forget about the people in their life.]

[bamfing]

[He nods. But he doesn't really want to go down that line of conversation for too much longer.]

Hey look. [He glances upward.] The stars are coming out.

[Melanie looks up at the sky, taking a moment to just sit in silence and just watch. Stargazing was never really something she did back home... it's surprisingly calming. Not that that's a bad thing.]

[bamfing]

[Kurt liked to do quite a bit of stargazing when he grew up. He had this funny idea once, as a kid, that maybe he was some kind of alien and that he belonged to one of those stars out there. And then it turned out he was actually a mutant. But he still liked the stars.

Even after a year, it was weird looking up at the sky. The stars weren't the same as the ones at home.]

[Melanie is content to just sit and watch the skies for the next few minutes. It's nice sitting with Kurt like this, and it's fairly easy to just relax and get lost in her own thoughts...

At least until the ride finally comes to a stop, anyway.]

Oh... I guess it's over. [Which is a shame, since she was enjoying that.

True, they could just go again, but there's still an entire amusement park to check out. It would be a bit silly to just keep going on one ride.]

[So it is! Well, that leaves them for something else to hang out on. Now what might that be...]

We could always just walk around a little. Find something cool?

[Melanie just smiles and reaches out to hold Kurt's hand.]

[He takes her hand in his, still nothing the weird texture of her hands now, but putting that out of thought and mind.]

Actually... cool and tasty would be cool. I could totally go for some nachos right now.

[... She doesn't actually have teeth for chewing right now, and if she had to eat anything she'd probably have to swallow it all whole. Plus, unhinging her jaw in front of Kurt would be kind of awkward. Still, that doesn't mean she can't do anything about it.]

[Hand in hand, he'll lead her there. Once they have their milkshakes ordered, they can carry on again, business as usual.]

[That works just fine for Melanie - she's got something she doesn't have to unhinge her jaw for, so it's all good.

Either way, even just walking around the area with Kurt is enjoyable. Although the circumstances leading up to it weren't exactly favourable, as far as first dates go? This one rates pretty high.]

You know, when I got back I just thought I'd have to stay in my apartment until I changed back. [However long that would last. Either way, it's not exactly practical.]

I'm glad I found a better way to spend my time. [Along with someone to spend it with.]

[This is probably his weirdest first date ever, but it's the only date he's ever been on where he's just been himself, with no hiding behind a holo watch. It's kind of nice.]
