I can't believe you've made it this long.

I'm just as surprised as you are.

[He laughs.] I'll make a twenty-first century girl out of you yet. [Then he remembers she's only like thirty years in his future.] Early twenty-first, anyway.

I'm sure it'll be a great moment in my history.

The best. But I'm hoping tonight stands out pretty good too.

I guess we'll have to find out, won't we? [Melanie's tone is light. Whatever it is Kurt has planned for them in the dome, she's sure she'll enjoy it.]

[At least they're at the dome now.]

Yeah, but no peeking at the console. I don't want to ruin it.

No peeking. I promise. [She'll even cover her eyes when the time comes.]

Good. Because it's a pain to block the viewing screen otherwise.

[Into the dome they go. He heads to the console and glances back, willing her eyes closed.]

[Eyes are closed and covered with her hands.]

Just let me know when everything's set up.

[BEEPITY BOOP BOOP BLIP BEEP BLIP BLOP BEEP BOOP WHIIIRRRR VROOP BEEP BOOP DOOT DING.]

Okay, ready. Just follow my hand. [He gently takes her hand so he can guide her into the chamber.]

[Melanie just smiles and reaches to grasp Kurt's hand, still keeping her eyes closed. She'll follow behind him until it's time to reveal whatever it is he's put together.]

[As they step through the chamber door, they're washed over by a cool night breeze. Not chilly, but just enough to relieve them from the warm evening air. There's some distant sounds- cars, sirens, the usual hubbub of the city. But it's distant enough that it's more ambiance than distracting. High up on the roof of this tall building, they're in the heart of the city, but too far above it to be concerned about its daily problems.

And when he gets her to open her eyes, there's an amazing view of the city. Kurt saw it once, when his parents were shuffling him off to America, they inevitably passed through Berlin. He suspected she might have seen the city herself once, given how well traveled her family was.

Set out for them was a table, some chairs, a candle in the center... and a box of pizza. Because Melanie may have been a classy girl, but he knew enough that she didn't enjoy playing the part. (He hoped eating he part counted too.)]

Here we are.

[Melanie haw seen it before, but it was different from what Kurt programmed into the chamber. It's one thing to see a city when flying over it on a giant card, or to look out at it from a hotel window and wonder just how much longer she'd be there... but this is different. Even if it's not real, it's still something she can actually appreciate without worrying about other things.

She says nothing for a moment, and finally offers Kurt a smile.]

It's fantastic. Thank you.

It's nothing. A lot of the work was already done.

He goes over to the edge to lean against the railing.]

Do you recognize any of it?

A little. [She moves forward to join Kurt at the edge, and absently reaches out to hold his hand.] It was pretty different when my family and I were there, but some of the landmarks were still around.

[He nods at that. While she's looking out there, he reaches into a pocket and pulls out a small box to give to her.]

Here. This is for you. Happy birthday. [Inside she will find a aquamarine necklace. It's nothing extravagant, but he had to order it from the Malnosso special for her.]

[Aquamarine. Her birthstone - how sweet of him.]

Kurt... [She smiles and takes the necklace, taking a moment to put it on.]

It's beautiful. Thank you.

[AND THEN THEY HAD A LOVELY, ROMANTIC EVENING the end.]
