[It’s late evening when Melanie returns from her mission, and despite the rain, she’s just glad to be back.

She's got a few small scrapes and bruises here and there and she's feeling exhausted, but she'll worry about all of that later. First she's off to the item shop so she can get a damn umbrella, because like hell she's walking back to CH1 in this rain. Sure, she doesn't mind the weather, but she's not exactly fond of getting soaking wet, either.

So, once that's taken care of, Melanie will head back to her apartment so she can clean herself up.

... Oh, yeah. Should probably take care of something else, too.]

Happy anniversary. [Six months is something that should be acknowledged, right? ... Well, it's the longest that she's ever been with anyone, at least. So that counts for something.]

Melanie may be a (former) criminal, but that certainly doesn't mean she's without manners. She doesn't hesitate to grasp Sally's hand and give it a firm shake.

"Melanie Walker. Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you, too." [Sally didn't actually have a plan for this, so she has to stall for a moment.] "I would've made a cake or something, but I probably shouldn't be allowed to bake anything. Erm, if you don't mind me asking, how long have you been here...? I just got here, myself."

Melanie takes a moment to think about Sally's question. She's been here since July, so...

"About eight months."

"Oh. Just got here, myself." Sally clears her throat and tries to look like an inoffensive, neighborly sort of person. "I didn't mean to bother you, or anything. I just thought you'd want to know who was moving in."

"Don't worry about it. No point in being strangers if we're going to be neighbours."

Well. This is ~~awkward~~ something.

"Do you want some tea, or something?" Nevermind the fact that Sally could just get some on her own since it's a community kitchen and not an individual thing, but... well, courtesy or something.

"Erm. Yeah, all right. Tea would be really nice, actually." Apparently being dragged into another universe produces something akin to jet lag, because at the offer, Sally realizes she lost track of time and forgot lunch. "I bought - well, picked up some biscuits yesterday too, if you'd like any."

"Oh. Sure." And she'll just be stepping out of her apartment so they can head over to the kitchen area.

"So, where are you from?" Judging from her accent, Melanie assumes England. But with how this place works, Sally could potentially be from another universe altogether. So that's mainly what she's asking about.

"London," Sally answers automatically, following Melanie, but then she rethinks. "Well, Leeds, but I've lived in London since university." Then she rethinks again. "Erm, it's a big city in a world called Earth, if that rings any bells? Where are you from?"

Melanie laughs a little bit, "I know Earth and I know London. My mom is from there, but... my family moved around a lot. Before I was brought here I was living in Gotham."

"Is she?" A lot more people here than Sally would have imagined seem to have connections to London. She wonders, idly, why that is. But more importantly, "Sorry, Gotham as in where Batman lives?"

"Yeah, where Batman lives." Said with a touch of bitterness. Even if he had helped her out once, he was also the reason she and her family were sent to prison in the first place. It's a bit of a sore subject.

Anyway, she'll just get started on making that tea.

"Is jasmine okay?"

"Where I come from, he's just a cartoon character." Yet more shocking revelations. Oh well; still not the weirdest thing she's heard today.

"Jasmine's fine, thanks." Maybe she should have brought something. Cake, or whatever it is new neighbors are supposed to turn up with. She finds herself looking around at nothing in particular. "These places are bigger than my flat back home. I think this kitchen could eat mine."

"He's real where I'm from, though you're not the first person who's said that." Actually, the first person that told her was her boyfriend, who's also apparently a fictional character. Funny how that works out.

On goes the kettle, she'll just go ahead and get some mugs while waiting for it to boil.

"No kidding. They're definitely bigger than the apartment I had back home." Not that she minds. Big, comfortable apartments with no rent? Melanie is perfectly fine with that.

"Makes me wonder if there's some mysterious detective where I come from who's a fictional character in other worlds." Says the woman who knows Sherlock Holmes, completely without irony...

"I don't even know what I'm going to do with all the room, really. I'll have to start a collection of something just to fill space."

"You never know until someone decides to spoil it for you." Melanie replies with a bit of a smirk. Sure, it's odd to find out that one... apparently doesn't exist, but she certainly feels real. So that's all that matters to her.

"I don't really mind all the room, but I've never really been a fan of small spaces, anyway." It reminds her a bit too much of being in a cell.

"Where I come from, there's a lot of crowded public transit and warding off throngs of reporters at the cordon line, so I'm lucky to have been blessed with a total lack of claustrophobia." Sally smirks a little, and shrugs. "But I admit the accommodations are a lot nicer than I was expecting."

"I'm not sure I'd call it claustrophobia." Just bad memories.

"But anyway, things are pretty comfortable. I think it might be their way of trying to make up for all the kidnapping and experimenting." Melanie sounds amused when she says this, and... she is, a little. She prefers being in Luceti over being in Gotham, but that has more to do with the people here than any of the perks the Malnosso have given.

Sally just shakes her head a little. "I guess it's something, but it's a bit like keeping a parakeet in a cage and giving it a little bell to ring." But forget about that; it just sounds pessimistic at this point. "Do you have any friends here? From...Gotham, I mean." Gotham where Batman is from. Weird.

"I don't."

There's Robin, but he's not a friend. More like an annoying stalker.

"Oh. I don't either, really - there's one bloke who's an insufferable wanker and probably a criminal mastermind, and his boyfriend, but they don't exactly count." She shrugs. "And my boss. I don't think you're allowed to list your boss as a friend, are you?"

Melanie smirks and offers Sally a shrug, "Depends on who's asking."
