[It’s late evening when Melanie returns from her mission, and despite the rain, she’s just glad to be back.

She's got a few small scrapes and bruises here and there and she's feeling exhausted, but she'll worry about all of that later. First she's off to the item shop so she can get a damn umbrella, because like hell she's walking back to CH1 in this rain. Sure, she doesn't mind the weather, but she's not exactly fond of getting soaking wet, either.

So, once that's taken care of, Melanie will head back to her apartment so she can clean herself up.

... Oh, yeah. Should probably take care of something else, too.]

Happy anniversary. [Six months is something that should be acknowledged, right? ... Well, it's the longest that she's ever been with anyone, at least. So that counts for something.]

Uh, kinda? I mean, I went to normal high school like anyone else, but I lived in this place with a bunch of other kids.

Must've been interesting. I've never actually gone to a normal school. [Her parents taught her everything she knows.]

I mean, it isn't exciting, but it's kinda nice. [Nice to be normal for a change. That didn't last long though.] It, like, totally sucks at the same time though. Some kids really like to pick on everyone else.

I think that might be something that stays the same no matter where you're from. [People being assholes, that is.

But, moving on. This girl seems nice enough, may as well introduce herself. She holds out her hand to shake.]

Anyway, I'm Melanie.

[Kitty takes the other's hand happily, but wait...]

Melanie? You wouldn't happen to know Kurt, do you? [It's a really uncommon name, but who knew with this place. And yes, she's still holding onto Melanie's hand.]

[Uhh.]

Yeah, he's my boyfriend.

[GASP! Kurt, you fail at introducing people. Kitty had to go find your girlfriend on all her own.]

I'm Kitty. Kurt is, like, my best friend. He told me about you. [And now she'll pull back her hand. Don't worry, Melanie, you're not forever trapped.]

[Well to his credit, she did just get back. So there hasn't been any opportunity until now.]

He did? [... Well, yeah, she is his girlfriend. Anyway, Melanie offers kitty a smile.]

It's nice to meet you, Kitty. You were brought here recently? [She assumes, since she's never seen her before and it's New Feather season.]

[Nope. Gotta put down Kurt wherever she can.]

Yeah. I got here a few days ago. But he so just told me about you, so it's totally great to meet you.

[Right, of course.]

Thanks. Anyway, this place is a bit weird at first, but after a while it's easier to get used to.

Has Kurt told you about our world? Weird is kinda our normal.

He has. And trust me, it's the same in Gotham. [There are people like Inque and Blight and costumed maniacs running around everywhere. Weird is definitely the norm over there.]

Really? [She believes you, just, she couldn't believe someone else had the same issues.]

So he told you about the X-Men too then?

[Not the exact same, but plenty of meta-humans and all sorts of crazy shit.]

He's mentioned it. [Never really went into detail, but mostly just told her how they work together to learn to control their powers, and stuff like that.]

I'm one of the X-Men too, which is how we know each other. Watch. [All the umbrellas? Kitty just phased her hand through all of them.]

[... Huh.]

Schway. So you're a meta-human-- [Wait, not the term they use in their world.] mutant, too.

[Meta-what?] Yup. It's how Kurt and I know each other. Pretty cool, right?

[Meta-human! ~~The much nicer-sounding DC term for people like Kitty and Kurt.~~]

Definitely. It's nice to meet more of his friends.

[It does sound cooler.]

It's nice too meet you too. [Pause.] So... How did you end up falling for him anyway?

["I am extremely forward and have a habit of kissing guys out of the blue ~~pun not intended~~."

... Yeah, that wouldn't work.]

It's hard to say, really. It kind of just... happened. [Better way of phrasing it, sure.]

[But it leaves so much out!]

That's what he said to. You gus don't have a romantic story or anything?

I guess not? I mean, we were friends before and he was the first person I met here, but like I said. It kind of just happened.

[Pouting.]

That's what he said too. But, I guess if you're dating my best friends, we should be friends too. So if he ever annoys you, let me know. [Now she's smiling, playing around some.]

[She grins.]

I'm pretty sure I can handle it, but I'll probably let you know anyway.

[Kitty smiles.] And we should totally hang out.
