2nd Card [Backdated to yesterday night]

[They spliced her. They kidnapped her and they spliced her. Sure, giving her wings when she arrived is one thing, but she didn't volunteer to be taken away so they could give her scales, fangs, mess with her eyes and get rid of her hair. She can't be out like this - she needs to get back into her apartment, and... stay there until she changes back. Or until she can figure out some other kind of solution.

Melanie's lucky it's dark out, or else it would be a hell of a lot harder to try and sneak back home - and she's lucky that she still has her legs, too. It would be pretty difficult to miss a human-sized thing slithering around in the middle of the night, after all. Of course, there's no real way of knowing for sure if she'll manage to get back without being seen, but damn it, she'll try.]

[Later, when she's back home:]

It's Melanie. Sorry for being away, but the sudden absence wasn't exactly my idea.

Either way, I'm back now, so I guess that's what matters. Did I miss anything interesting?

[OOC: Melanie's back from her mallynapping! And she's been spliced with a black mamba, HOORAY. She'll be looking pretty different from usual (apologies, my editing skills seem to be pretty crummy these days), and she may start acting a bit different since splicing changes both appearance and personality, so uh. Yeah. Just a head's up! |D]

[He knows that feeling, only time ten. He felt the same way the first day he received it.]

There's only one tiny problem. I'm ahh... not so good at programming it. [He pulls it off, returning to his normal self.] I can try, but... are you any good with computer stuff? [He can fly a jet, but programming a VCR is still beyond him.]

[Melanie takes the watch, taking a moment to look it over before she puts it on. Computers, tech... she can handle it. She was the one her family relied on when they needed to deal with something like that, after all.]

I can handle all kinds of tech, just give me a second. [Or a bit longer. Melanie is good at what she does so long as she isn't too distracted. The thought of not having to look like some kind of freak is distracting enough, but she forces herself to focus so she can get everything in order.

It's a few minutes of fiddling around with the watch before her form flickers and goes back to how she normally looks. Blond hair, pale skin, no scales, and normal everything.]

[He's impressed she's able to work with it so quickly. What is it that makes these people better at it than him anyway?

Once she gets it working, he smiles at seeing the old Melanie again. Even if he knows what she looks like underneath.]

So you're beautiful, a fighter, and super smart. Anything you don't do?

[It comes with years of experience.]

Well for one, I have no idea how I'm going to repay you for this. [If he doesn't move away, he's going to get a great big hug. Melanie will probably feel a bit cold, though. Even if she looks back to normal, the hologram doesn't change the fact that she's currently cold-blooded. Not that it matters much, as she's not really concerned with anything beyond Kurt and the watch he gave her at the moment.]

Thanks, Kurt. I really appreciate it.

[A little cold, yes, but it's offset by his fuzz and while it's a little different than usual, it's not a bad different. After all, they've never hugged!]

Ahh, it's nothing. A date at Luceti Land and we're even.

[No, they haven't! Either way, Kurt will probably be getting a lot more hugs in the future. For now, however, she'll pull away and offer him another smile.]

I think I can handle a date.

[Helping people? It's kind of great and it makes him happy just to think that he's managed to turn this night around for her, even after something horrible has happened to her.]

If you want some time to yourself, I can meet you at the barracks in an hour, yeah?

[After all, he figures she might want to.. freshen up. Or something. Who knows.]

[Yeah, this has definitely turned the night around for Melanie. She comes back spliced, but then she gets her appearance back and now she has a date. All in all, it's a lot better than she thought it would be.

As for freshening up... she's not sure how she can freshen up when she's essentially a snake person covered by a hologram, but she could probably use a shower or something.]

Sure, I'll see you then. [And then Melanie goes off back to her place to do and do whatever it is she needs to do.

She'll be at the barracks an hour later, holo-watch on and much less tense than she was when Kurt first saw her tonight.]

[Kurt wasn't sure how HE should freshen up, but he did work on his hair a little bit, put on some cologne, and rustled together some nice looking clothes. Not fancy, because it was a theme park after all, but just enough to make him look cool. Despite being blue.

When she's finally at the barracks, he'll step out to meet her. He had been hanging there for about five minutes before she showed.]

Hey Melanie. Feeling better?

Hey. [She offers Kurt a smile once she catches sight of him.]

I think I'm feeling about as good as I can, all things considered.

You ready to go?

[He offers his hand, then. Not to teleport, because the machine they'll be using inside, but as a friendly gesture instead.]

As ever. I hoped you packed something to swim in.

I did. [She takes his hand.] I'm guessing the watch is waterproof, too, right?

This should be fun, though. I can't remember the last time I went to an amusement park. [After all, places like that were never very high priorities for the Royal Flush Gang.

... Which is something she should probably mention to Kurt at some point. It was public when she told Flynn, but it would be silly to automatically assume that Kurt listened in on that. Of course, it wouldn't be very good to bring that up during a date, either. So... Melanie's past and her family can wait until some other time.]

Not just waterproof, but it works in any altitude too!

[Her scaly hands are immediately noticeable, but he tries to put that in the back of his mind and remember this is only temporary. He starts to lead her into the barracks.]

I went to one last summer, back in my world. It was cool, but not as cool as this one.

Great. [That... is very good to know.

Also, depending on just how closely Kurt is looking, every once in a while he may notice Melanie's tongue flicker out for a fraction of a second. It doesn't happen nearly as much as it did before he gave her the watch, though - back at her apartment, Melanie noticed just how bizarre it looked when the rest of her appeared to be human, so she's working on trying to stop herself from doing it too often. Difficult, considering it's like an impulse for her, but she's trying for the sake of looking normal.]

Never really had much of an opportunity to go to anything like this back home, but now that I'm here I don't really have to worry about that. [No better time than the present, and all.]

[Now that she mentions it, he's never asked much about what her home is like. He just knows about the splicers and Joker rip offs and the vague idea she's from the future. Hmm.]

So what's it like in Gotham? I mean, besides the evil clowns, yeah?

I guess it's not so bad if you can bring yourself to look past the all the crime and people running around in costumes.

[... Melanie, do not ruin the mood already.]

Still, being there was better than moving around all the time. [Not counting the period when she was doing time, anyway.] Things never really stay boring for long, at least. There's always something going on.

[She had mentioned that bit about constantly being on the move when they first met. He heads on into the teleporter, the same one he brought her to the village with the day they met.]

Why move to Gotham anyway? I mean... Batman or not, it's pretty much crawling with super villains.

[Melanie can't help but let out an agitated hiss when Batman is mentioned, but... whatever. The question was about Gotham, not Batman - even if Batman was her father's reason for going back to Gotham.]

My family originally went to Gotham because of my dad. I just never ended up leaving.

[He notices that. Maybe she ran into him once? Batman is a pretty scary dude, no matter what side of the law you're on.]

Yeah? What does your dad do?

[Oh, nothing big. He was just the leader of a family of thieves.

She could just tell a lie, but that wouldn't be fair to Kurt, especially since she's already told the truth to one person over a public entry. Still, there's nothing wrong with being vague, right?]

He works with money, mostly. [And there's definitely plenty of that in Gotham.]

What about you? What were things like where you're from? [TOPIC CHANGE, GO!]

[Back home? Well, his mother was turned into a statue after unleashing Apocalypse...]

End of the semester. I was going to be a senior. I guess I'd be graduating by now if I was back home .

Oh? Must have been interesting. [Uh.] If you were into the whole school thing, anyway.

[Melanie's family taught her nearly everything she knows, and anything else she had to learn on her own. That, and with how often her family moved from city to city, high school wasn't really much of an option.]

[He nods. By now they're walking along the beach and the theme park is coming into view, beyond the bridge they're headed to.]

I couldn't go to school before the professor gave me that watch. So... being able to go was really, really cool.

I can imagine. [It felt amazing enough to have Kurt offer to let her use that watch after spending a brief time as a splicer, but that feeling must have been so much stronger for Kurt. He could go to school and go out and look like a regular human being after spending his whole life blue and fuzzy.]

... Thanks again, by the way. I'll make sure to give it back when I'm [normal] no longer some kind of snake.

[Kurt just nods, not too worried about it.]

Hopefully that won't be too long, but no rush on the watch, yeah? I can live without it.
